Other comics of July 18, 2012

I’m going to start making this a separate post from  my main comic reviews. Also, I might not have time to post any full reviews next week because I’m working a lot (my co-worker’s vacation has been extended ’cause he’s stuck outside the country.) Other comics I read this week include Supergirl 11, Wolverine 309, Captain Marvel 1, Birds of Prey 11, New Mutants 46, Fantastic Four 608 and Uncanny X-Men 16. Here are my quick thoughts on these comics.

Supergirl 11 was good. Supergirl is having a date with Silver Sable’s brother when they’re attacked by some dude in a special armor suit. After the issue’s fight scene, Supergirl decides to fly off on her own to find out who is sending all these people after her. If you’ve enjoyed Supergirl so far, you’ll likely enjoy this one. It’s also a decent starting point for those who are curious to check it out.

Wolverine 309 simply isn’t worth its $5 price tag. It’s not necessarily bad, but it’s nothing special either. Elixir, who’s worked with Wolverine before in X-Force volume 3, is following Wolverine around on a rather dark mission. It doesn’t explore their relationship nearly as much as you’d expect it to and the story isn’t anything special either. Skip it.

Captain Marvel 1 was fairly good and shows lots of promise for the series. Not sure what else to say about it.

Birds of Prey 11 was interesting. I’m not sure what I think about it yet, but the events in this issue could take the series in some very interesting directions. Hint, Poison Ivy’s true plan is reveald here. If you’ve been reading this series so far, this is worth checking out.

New Mutants 46 was a surprise. Only a week after the last issue and this three issue story arc is already done. It’s good, although I wouldn’t call it great.

Fantastic Four 608 was very good. There are some strong moments between Mr. Fantastic and the Black Panther. There’s another storyline with the panther’s sister, Invisible Woman and Storm that’s almost as good. It also “foreshadows” the events that happened in Avengers vs. X-Men 8. There could be some very interesting times coming up for the Black Panther. This is definitely worth picking up.

Uncanny X-Men 16 was awesome. The whole issue is a giant fight between the phoenix five and the armies of Sinister. These armies include everything from clones of various X-Men to even wheat that attacks the phoenix five. Sinister successfully takes out the five and the rest of the extinction team has to rescue them – brilliant.

About healed1337

I am a relatively new comic book fan writing this blog for other new comic book fans and/or people who are interested in comics but don't know where to start. I've always been interested in writing, to the point where I have a college Creative Writing Certificate and I'm currently a year 2 Journalism student. I also have another blog where I mostly make fun of bad movies - www.healed1337.blogspot.com As for how I got into comics, I've always had a passing interest in superheroes: most notably Batman, Spider-man and the X-Men. Until February of 2011 (I think,) my only experience with any of these franchises came from the movies and video games. Shortly after I bought Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 however, I decided to check out X-23, Wolverine's female clone. I ended up reading her Innocence Lost origin story and enjoyed it. From there, I started reading various X-Men comics and it quickly exploded into my newest hobby. My other interests/hobbies include video games, movies, music, playing sports, my dogs and weird news.
