Comics of September 19, 2012

The comics I picked up this week include Avengers Academy 37, Venom 25, X-Factor 244, New Mutants 49, Supergirl 0, Nightwing 0 and Birds of Prey 0. It was nice to have a week with no AVX titles on my pull list. Anyway these are my first impressions; I’ll link to full reviews as I write them.

X-Factor 244 was great as usual. This issue is all about Banshee and picks up from her previous fight with an actual banshee. There are also further developments from last issue’s Polaris origin story to round out the comic nicely. If you like X-Factor, you’ll probably like this.

New Mutants 49 was alright. I haven’t really enjoyed the time travel story that the New Mutants have been stuck in for the last while, but the conclusion in this issue was satisfactory. If you’ve been reading New Mutants to this point, read and decide for yourself. Since this is the end of a somewhat confusing story arc and the second last issue of the series, this definitely isn’t a good jumping on point.

Birds of Prey 0 was alright. It’s about the first time Batgirl meets Black Canary and Starling. Not really sure what to say about the story, but I was neither impressed nor disappointed. My thoughts are that because Marvel Now coming up and that I’ve promised to give every title an honest chance, I’ll probably drop this book for a while and catch up on paperback later if I hear it’s good.

About healed1337

I am a relatively new comic book fan writing this blog for other new comic book fans and/or people who are interested in comics but don't know where to start. I've always been interested in writing, to the point where I have a college Creative Writing Certificate and I'm currently a year 2 Journalism student. I also have another blog where I mostly make fun of bad movies - www.healed1337.blogspot.com As for how I got into comics, I've always had a passing interest in superheroes: most notably Batman, Spider-man and the X-Men. Until February of 2011 (I think,) my only experience with any of these franchises came from the movies and video games. Shortly after I bought Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 however, I decided to check out X-23, Wolverine's female clone. I ended up reading her Innocence Lost origin story and enjoyed it. From there, I started reading various X-Men comics and it quickly exploded into my newest hobby. My other interests/hobbies include video games, movies, music, playing sports, my dogs and weird news.
