Supergirl 0 review

As with the rest of the 0 issues this month, Supergirl 0 is a retelling of Kara’s origin story. It’s the story of how she was sent to Earth before the death of Krypton. It’s almost too similar to Superman’s origin story, which is what holds this issue back the most.

This comic is well written yet it’s too familiar, even to someone who hasn’t read many DC comics before the New 52. There are no real surprises either. There’s not much else to say about the story. If you want to read Supergirl’s origin story and are OK with it only being slightly different from Superman’s origin, you might like this. If you don’t want to read the same thing again, ignore this issue.

The art is fairly good. While it’s light on the fine details, and Supergirl’s mother almost looks like a zombie in one panel, it’s never a bad looking book. Argo City looks straight out of a sci-fi movie, as do most characters’ outfits. Facial expressions are generally handled well.

There’s really nothing else to say about this one. It’s good if you can look past how similar it is to Superman’s origin. If you’re not sure, read it before you buy it. It’s  a shame, because this series is usually better than this.

About healed1337

I am a relatively new comic book fan writing this blog for other new comic book fans and/or people who are interested in comics but don't know where to start. I've always been interested in writing, to the point where I have a college Creative Writing Certificate and I'm currently a year 2 Journalism student. I also have another blog where I mostly make fun of bad movies - www.healed1337.blogspot.com As for how I got into comics, I've always had a passing interest in superheroes: most notably Batman, Spider-man and the X-Men. Until February of 2011 (I think,) my only experience with any of these franchises came from the movies and video games. Shortly after I bought Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 however, I decided to check out X-23, Wolverine's female clone. I ended up reading her Innocence Lost origin story and enjoyed it. From there, I started reading various X-Men comics and it quickly exploded into my newest hobby. My other interests/hobbies include video games, movies, music, playing sports, my dogs and weird news.
