General blog update – why the Nerd Journals have been slow

This is a bit of a blog-related update. First, I should address the status of my Nerd Journals, since I’ve been slowing down a lot with them. Second, I should talk about my interest in comics as a whole.

First of all, I realize that my Nerd Journals have been a bit slow lately. A large chunk of that was my Christmas week set of posts, in addition to working a lot of hours at work (working retail in December is nuts).  I’m also working on finishing my required co-op hours for school so that I can graduate. Even so, I haven’t posted my thoughts on Marvel Now for February, and my improving Star Wars Episode 3 has been delayed much more than it should have been.

The reason why these posts have been delayed is that I’ve been doing a lot of fiction writing lately. I’ve been an on and off fiction writer since I was six-years-old, and in the last month I got back into it. Within the last 30 days, I basically wrote the rough drafts for two novels. I won’t say what they’re about yet because I’m probably going to try to get them published after a couple rewrites, but I feel that they’re easily my best fictional writing yet.

I don’t want to wear myself out though, as I have a habit of doing that with everything I’m interested in. I’m going to take a small break from fiction and continue on these nerd journals. Hopefully the Star Wars Episode 3 post will be up by next week (I’ve already written it in point form), and I intend to address my problems with X-Men 3: The Last Stand at some point. Even so, there probably won’t be too many nerd journals in the near future.

There’s more than one reason I didn’t post my thoughts on February’s Marvel Now books though. Being busy with fiction writing was one of them, but the other is that I’m not quite as much into comics as I was last year. Don’t worry, I still enjoy them, I just don’t want to get tired of them. For a while, I was reading at least 14 issues on a daily basis. Lately, I’ve mostly been ignoring comics outside of Wednesdays and Thursdays. I’m not reading as many back issues or older stories, and I’m finding comics more enjoyable that way.

As I said, I have a habit of wearing myself out of my interests. For a while I was into video games – I was playing through an average of one new game for the first time every week. I played through some games in single sittings – on one day I completely played through both Kane and Lynch 2 and M&M’s Racing for the Wii (that was rough). I played through both of the first two Mass Effect games for the first time within a week. After a while, I got completely sick of video games, and didn’t play anything for weeks at a time. That’s basically when I discovered my newfound love for comics by the way.

For a while I was into entertainingly bad movies – I even had another blog where I made fun of them. I grew so tired of them that I didn’t watch any bad movies for several years, and that blog fell completely apart. I enjoy them again now, but in small doses and inter-mixed with good movies.

It’s just the way that I am. I’m an all-round nerd who goes through cycles. I need balance and variety, or else I ware myself out of the things I enjoy. Now that I’ve learned that, I can balance things out better and enjoy a bit of everything.

So that’s my update on this blog in general. I’ll probably cut my usual comic review count to four a week for now, unless there are five Marvel Now books labelled as issue 1 or 2 in the same week. It’s also not worth posting entire posts about Marvel Now each month since there’s only one or two new titles each month from now on. I’ll probably be reposting more of my bad movie and game reviews from my older blog so that I can eventually close it. I’m also slowly getting back into gaming, so you’ll likely see more gaming related posts in the near future. I’ll most likely be reviewing the upcoming Deadpool game, whenever it comes out.

About healed1337

I am a relatively new comic book fan writing this blog for other new comic book fans and/or people who are interested in comics but don't know where to start. I've always been interested in writing, to the point where I have a college Creative Writing Certificate and I'm currently a year 2 Journalism student. I also have another blog where I mostly make fun of bad movies - www.healed1337.blogspot.com As for how I got into comics, I've always had a passing interest in superheroes: most notably Batman, Spider-man and the X-Men. Until February of 2011 (I think,) my only experience with any of these franchises came from the movies and video games. Shortly after I bought Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 however, I decided to check out X-23, Wolverine's female clone. I ended up reading her Innocence Lost origin story and enjoyed it. From there, I started reading various X-Men comics and it quickly exploded into my newest hobby. My other interests/hobbies include video games, movies, music, playing sports, my dogs and weird news.
