Release Day Rundown – May 8, 2013

These are my first impressions for all the comics I picked up this week. They include Uncanny X-Force 4, The Fearless Defenders 4, Uncanny Avengers 8, Thor: God of Thunder 8, Avengers Arena 9, Batman 20 and Witchblade 166.

I was going to pick up Astonishing X-Men 62 as well, but my local shop didn’t get enough copies.

I’ll add links to my full reviews as I post them.

About healed1337

I am a relatively new comic book fan writing this blog for other new comic book fans and/or people who are interested in comics but don't know where to start. I've always been interested in writing, to the point where I have a college Creative Writing Certificate and I'm currently a year 2 Journalism student. I also have another blog where I mostly make fun of bad movies - www.healed1337.blogspot.com As for how I got into comics, I've always had a passing interest in superheroes: most notably Batman, Spider-man and the X-Men. Until February of 2011 (I think,) my only experience with any of these franchises came from the movies and video games. Shortly after I bought Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 however, I decided to check out X-23, Wolverine's female clone. I ended up reading her Innocence Lost origin story and enjoyed it. From there, I started reading various X-Men comics and it quickly exploded into my newest hobby. My other interests/hobbies include video games, movies, music, playing sports, my dogs and weird news.

UXF was really good. I’m really enjoying this series. It’s fun, but with plenty of drama. Spiral’s been made sympathetic, Storm and Psylocke have a good friendship, and Puck is awesome.

Fearless Defenders is good. Fun. Cool action. I’m glad for the lack of fanservice. The page where Annabelle went to talk to Val was messed up, though. Sliney just screw up completely with that page. I think he was probably rushing, and just did a horrible job on it.

UA is good, but not the book I wanted. I think Remender should’ve gone with a more politically themed book. He’s doing well at what he’s doing, though. Of course, if his UXF run is anything to go by, we’ll get a really shitty arc soon, before a great climax, followed by a couple years of crap.

Thor was good. Cool. Some fun moments, and lots of awesome.

AA still offends me. I’m not surprised about the death. I don’t think anyone expected him to survive it. Though this makes three out of four deaths with no spotlight issue. Bah.
