These are my unscripted thoughts on the comics I picked up today. They include Young Avengers 5, Uncanny X-Men 6, Fantastic Four 8, Superior Spider-Ma 10, X-Men Legacy 11, Scarlet Spider 17, Journey into Mystery 652 and Batman Incorporated 11.
I am a relatively new comic book fan writing this blog for other new comic book fans and/or people who are interested in comics but don't know where to start.
I've always been interested in writing, to the point where I have a college Creative Writing Certificate and I'm currently a year 2 Journalism student. I also have another blog where I mostly make fun of bad movies - www.healed1337.blogspot.com
As for how I got into comics, I've always had a passing interest in superheroes: most notably Batman, Spider-man and the X-Men. Until February of 2011 (I think,) my only experience with any of these franchises came from the movies and video games. Shortly after I bought Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 however, I decided to check out X-23, Wolverine's female clone. I ended up reading her Innocence Lost origin story and enjoyed it. From there, I started reading various X-Men comics and it quickly exploded into my newest hobby.
My other interests/hobbies include video games, movies, music, playing sports, my dogs and weird news.
YA was awesome. Kieron Gille is always awesome. I love what he’s doing with Loki. He’s showing an Evil Loki who still has a heart. It’s fantastic. This isn’t classic Loki, arrogant and selfish, caring for no one but himself, with only vengeance and power motivating him. This is a brand-new Loki, with far more complex feelings and motivations. Ones that even he doesn’t fully understand yet.
UXM was great. Frazer’s art carried the issue a lot. That’s not a slam on Bendis’s writing, because the writing was still solid. But Frazer made Limbo look terrifying.
Fantastic Four was really good. I like how Fraction’s actually tying his AU issue into the main series. That’s really interesting.
Superior Spider-Man was great. MJ’s finally suspecting things, the Green Goblin’s interesting, and I like the romance with Anna. It’s a cute romance.
XML was pretty cool. Interesting twist at the end. But more important: Chamber! Yay! Blindfold, Chamber, Frenzy and Pixie as a secret team? Yay!
Scarlet Spider was good. Aracely was hilarious, and then she became really creepy, and managed to be creepy and adorable at the same time.
JiM was great. I’m loving this series. Kathryn Immonen writes a great Sif. And I like seeing Beta Ray Bill’s return. I’m intrigued to see how this reunion goes.
